Germany has 78 IB World Schools, 76 of them authorised for the Diploma Programme, alongside British and American-curriculum schools. These are the ones our students actually attend — with the programmes each school genuinely offers, because IGCSE, MYP and the Diploma are three different jobs for a tutor.
Families are often told a German university "wants 38 points". No German university publishes an IB cut-off — the system does not work that way, and anyone quoting you one has invented it. Here is what actually happens.

The subject combination matters more than the headline total. Three subjects must sit at Higher Level, and taking Mathematics at Standard Level can restrict a student to subject-bound admission rather than general university entrance — a decision made in Year 11 that quietly closes doors in Year 13. It is worth checking early.
German universities do not set an IB threshold. For oversubscribed subjects they rank every applicant by converted grade average and admit downwards until the places are gone — the grade of the last student admitted becomes that semester's Numerus Clausus. It is a result, not a requirement, and it moves every single intake. The universities that publish theirs attach an explicit warning against using them to predict anything.
International applicants are usually assessed in a separate quota of the intake rather than against the published figure at all. So the honest answer to "what score do I need" is: the highest one your child can reasonably reach, because the bar is set by whoever else applies that year.
What we can tell you is where the leverage sits. Two points is a third of a grade, and points are far easier to add in Year 12 than in the last eight weeks of Year 13 — which is why we push families to start the Diploma years with support rather than rescue them at the end of it.
