Nanny jobs at Rundil, at a glance

In short

Rundil hires English-speaking nannies across Switzerland on permanent Swiss employment contracts. You are employed by Rundil — not by the family and not as a self-employed contractor — so your AHV, BVG and UVG contributions, accident insurance and liability cover are all paid by us, and you receive one reliable monthly payslip instead of chasing several families for cash. You choose the days and hours you want to work, we assign you to families close to where you live, and you stay with the same children week after week. Your hourly pay is agreed with you individually when you apply. Most nannies are assigned to their first family within days of completing onboarding and document checks.

The nanny jobs we are hiring for

Every Rundil assignment is in a family's own home, in English, with children you get to know properly. Tell us on the application form which of these suits your life — most nannies do a mix.

Regular weekly nanny

The heart of what we do. Fixed days each week with one family, so you build a real relationship with the children and know exactly what your month looks like. Around eight hours a week with a family is the usual rhythm, and many nannies hold two or three families.

Fixed scheduleSame childrenBabies to primary

After-school nanny

The 15:30 to 19:00 gap that Swiss school days leave behind. School or Hort pick-up, snack, homework supervision, activities and the run-up to bedtime. Ideal if you study, have your own school-age children, or want your mornings free.

AfternoonsSchool runHomework support

Flex & on-demand cover

Short-notice, out-of-hours, weekend, school-holiday and emergency care for families we already look after. Fewer fixed commitments and more variety — the right fit if your availability moves week to week.

Short noticeWeekendsSchool holidays

Newborn & first-year support

Supporting parents through the steep first year — feeds, naps, routine, and a calm second pair of hands in the house. Experience with babies and a settled, unhurried manner matter more here than anything on paper.

0–18 monthsRoutine buildingDaytime

Holiday & school-break care

Swiss school holidays are long and working parents run out of cover. Full days of activities, outings and play across Sportferien, spring, summer and autumn breaks — concentrated blocks of work rather than a weekly commitment.

Nannies with a teaching background

If you hold a degree in education or childcare, or primary-curriculum experience, say so on the form. It opens our Expert-tier work with primary-age children, and we can also introduce you to Rundil Tutoring if you would like academic hours alongside childcare.

The difference that matters

You are employed. Properly.

Most nanny work in Switzerland is either cash-in-hand or dressed up as self-employment. Both leave you with no AHV record, no accident cover, no paid holiday and no protection if a family simply stops calling. Rundil is a managed childcare service and the legal employer of every nanny we assign — the family buys a service from us, and we employ you.

CHF 0
that you pay for social security administration, insurance or invoicing. It is our job, not yours.
A written Swiss employment contract
Permanent, with social security — not a service agreement, not a platform's terms of use.
AHV, BVG and UVG paid for you
Your pension and accident cover build up the way they should. Nothing to register, nothing to declare yourself.
One monthly payslip, on time
We invoice the family and carry the risk if they are late. You are paid monthly with a clear breakdown of every hour worked.
Liability cover carried by Rundil
If something is broken during a session, it is handled through our insurance — not out of your pocket, and not argued about in a family's kitchen.
Compare honestly

Rundil, or the other ways to work as a nanny

Worth understanding before you accept anything. The difference is not the work — it is who carries the employment.

Working through Rundil Employed

A managed childcare service that employs its nannies directly
  • Permanent Swiss employment contract with Rundil
  • AHV, BVG and UVG contributions paid by your employer
  • Paid monthly with an itemised payslip, whatever the family does
  • Liability and accident insurance carried by Rundil
  • Travel supported — fuel and parking, or a discounted travel card
  • If a family pauses, we assign you to another one
  • No fee, no commission, no subscription — ever
  • Interviewed, reference-checked and background-checked at our cost

Private hire, apps and cash work

Finding families yourself, or through a marketplace or agency
  • You are the family's employee, or self-employed — the paperwork is yours
  • Cash work leaves no AHV record — it shows up decades later, in your pension
  • You chase late payment yourself, family by family
  • Accident and liability cover depend on what you arranged yourself
  • Travel costs come out of your own hourly rate
  • One family ending can mean an empty week with no replacement
  • Platforms and placement agencies take a cut or charge a fee
If you are working for cash today, you are not doing anything unusual — a great deal of childcare in Switzerland is arranged that way. It is simply worth knowing that the missing AHV years are permanent, and that nothing covers you if a child is hurt or something is damaged while you are responsible.
Before you apply

What we look for in a Rundil nanny

Warmth with children comes first — it is the one thing we cannot train. Everything below is what we check alongside it, and most of it is discussed rather than demanded.

With children

  • Genuine warmth — children relax around you
  • Solid childcare experience, paid or in your own family
  • Calm and unflustered when a day goes sideways
  • Comfortable with the age group you apply for
  • Play, routine and boundaries, not screens

Safety & certification

  • Swiss criminal-record extract (Strafregisterauszug)
  • CPR and first-aid certification preferred — discussed at interview
  • References we can call, from families or employers
  • Awareness of safeguarding and when to escalate
  • Every nanny is interviewed in person before assignment

Practicalities

  • Legally allowed to work in Switzerland
  • English spoken as a minimum; German, French or Italian a real plus

We interview you, call your references and verify your criminal-record extract and right to work. This is also where your hourly pay and your weekly pattern are agreed with you.

Nanny jobs in Switzerland: your questions answered

What do I need to apply for a nanny job with Rundil?
Real warmth with children, solid childcare experience, English as a minimum, and the legal right to work in Switzerland. Everything else — certification, references, your criminal-record extract — is checked with you after you apply. There is no CV requirement and no application fee. The nanny application form takes about ten minutes and a person reads every submission.
What will I earn as a Rundil nanny?
Your hourly pay is agreed with you individually when you apply. It reflects your experience, your qualifications and your availability, so we do not publish a single figure that would be wrong for most people. Pay is discussed openly at interview, before you commit to anything, and it is written into your contract. You are paid monthly with an itemised breakdown of every hour worked.
Am I employed by Rundil, or by the family?
By Rundil. Rundil Childcare is a managed childcare service, not a placement agency — the family buys a childcare service from us and signs a service agreement with us, and we employ you on a Swiss employment contract. You are never the family's employee, and you are never asked to work as self-employed. That is the single biggest difference between us and most nanny work in Switzerland.
Do I need a permit to work as a nanny in Switzerland?
Yes. You must be legally allowed to work in Switzerland — that means being a Swiss national, an EU/EFTA national, or the holder of a valid Swiss residence permit that allows employment (B, C, L or G). We verify this before your first assignment. We cannot sponsor a permit, and we cannot employ you without one.
Do I need previous professional experience?
Professional experience helps, but it is not the only thing we count. Experience with your own children, with younger siblings, as an au pair, in a Kita or as a teaching assistant all matters. What we cannot train is the warmth — children either relax around you or they do not. If you have that and you are dependable, apply and let us talk it through.
Do I need CPR and first-aid certification before I apply?
It is preferred rather than required at the application stage. Certification is expected before you are assigned to a family, and we discuss the details with you individually at interview — including what to do if yours has lapsed. Tell us honestly where you stand on the form; it is not a reason to hold back your application.
Can I choose my own working hours?
Yes. You set your availability and we only assign work inside it. Mornings only, afternoons only, three fixed days, school hours, weekends — all workable. A regular weekly pattern of around eight hours with one family suits the child best, but nothing is imposed on you, and if your availability changes you tell us and we adjust.
How quickly can I start?
Most nannies start within days of completing onboarding and document checks. The pace depends on how quickly your references reply and your criminal-record extract comes through, and on demand in your area. We will tell you honestly where you stand rather than leave you waiting.
What contract and benefits do you offer?
A permanent Swiss employment contract with social security. Rundil pays your AHV, BVG and UVG contributions, carries liability and accident insurance, and pays you monthly with a clear breakdown. There is no Einzelfirma to register, no AHV to declare yourself and no invoices to write.
Do you cover my travel costs?
Yes. If you drive, we reimburse fuel and parking where needed. If you use public transport, we can provide a discounted travel card to reduce your commuting costs. We also assign you to families close to where you live, so you are not crossing the canton twice a day.
Do I need to speak German or French?
No. English is the working language — most of the families we care for are international or expat households, and English-speaking care is exactly what they are looking for. German, French or Italian is a genuine advantage and widens the families we can assign you to, but it is not a requirement.
How many families will I work with?
Usually one to three, depending on how many hours you want. Assignments are ongoing rather than one-off, so you keep the same children week after week and build a real relationship with them. If you want more hours, tell us and we will assign another family within your availability.
What happens if a family stops or cancels?
Your contract is with Rundil, not with the family, so a family pausing does not end your job — we assign you to another one. Families give 48 hours' notice to cancel a session free of charge, and we handle every one of those conversations. You never have to argue about a cancelled afternoon.
Is there any fee to apply or to be assigned?
No. There is no application fee, no introduction fee, no commission and no subscription — ever. Rundil is paid by the family for a childcare service, and you are paid by Rundil as an employee. Any nanny work that asks you to pay to be introduced to families is not how this works.
Do you hire live-in nannies or au pairs?
No. Every Rundil nanny job is in-home, hourly and live-out — you work agreed sessions in a family's home and go back to your own. We do not run an au pair programme and we do not arrange accommodation, which also means you never depend on an employer for a place to live.
How do you decide which family I am assigned to?
We assign you to a family — you are not asked to browse a list and pitch yourself for work. We look at your availability, the ages you are comfortable with, your experience and how far you can reasonably travel, and put that against the family's needs. You are told who the family is, what the hours are and what is expected before you meet them, and if an assignment is not right for either side we reassign without friction.

Nanny jobs in Switzerland, and why the employment model matters more than the hourly rate

Search for nanny jobs in Switzerland and almost everything you find falls into one of three buckets: a classifieds board where families post directly, a babysitting marketplace that takes a cut of every booking, or a placement agency that introduces you to a household and then steps back. All three end the same way — you become the family's employee, or you are asked to invoice as a self-employed nanny. The hourly figure can look attractive, and then the AHV, the pension contributions, the accident cover and the unpaid holiday come out of it.

Rundil works the other way round. We are a managed childcare service, and the legal employer of every nanny we assign. Families purchase childcare from us; we employ the nanny. That single structural difference is what puts a permanent Swiss contract, paid social security, insurance and a reliable monthly payslip behind the job — and it is why our nannies do not spend their evenings chasing a family for last month's hours.

What a week actually looks like

Most of our nannies hold one to three ongoing families and work the days they chose themselves. A typical assignment runs around eight hours a week with one family, which is the rhythm that suits a child best: enough contact to be a familiar, steady presence, not so much that the parents disappear. Some nannies build a full week from three families; others take a single after-school family alongside their studies or their own children's school day. Sessions run for a minimum of two hours, always in the family's own home, always in English.

The work is real childcare rather than supervision: play, meals, routine, the school or Hort run, homework at the kitchen table, outings when the weather allows. What you will not do is argue about money, write invoices, chase late payment, or negotiate what happens when a family cancels. Those conversations belong to us, and we keep them.

Where the demand is

Rundil places nannies across all of Switzerland, and demand is heaviest in Zürich and Zug, where international families relocate for work with no extended family nearby and a real need for English-speaking care. Winterthur, Luzern, Basel, Geneva and Lausanne all carry steady demand too. Because we assign you to families close to where you live, a strong application from a smaller commune is still worth sending — we would rather hold a good nanny for the right family nearby than send anyone across a canton twice a day.

If you are working for cash today

A great deal of childcare in Switzerland is arranged informally, and nobody applying to us needs to feel awkward about it. It is simply worth knowing what it costs. Cash work leaves no AHV record, and missing contribution years cannot be bought back later — they surface decades on, in a smaller pension. There is no accident cover if you are hurt on the job, and no liability cover if something is damaged while a child is in your care. Moving onto a proper contract does not change the work you do. It changes what stands behind it.

Ready to apply?

The nanny application form asks about your experience, the ages you are comfortable with, your availability and your permit. It takes about ten minutes, you can complete it on your phone, and a person reads every submission. If you would rather ask a question before you apply, message us on WhatsApp and we will answer honestly — including about pay. We are also hiring tutors and cleaners on the same employment terms.

Do the work you love. We will carry the rest.
