Germany has 76 schools authorised to teach the IB Diploma and very little tutoring built around what the Diploma actually marks. We assign a specialist for your child's exact subjects and levels — at home or online for the same price, from €68 an hour with no VAT added, refundable in full if a session falls short.

The IB market in Germany splits into two unhelpful halves. The premium international agencies charge €60 to €150 an hour, teach online only and cannot touch the German side of the question your family is actually asking. The German Nachhilfe chains and subscription platforms are cheaper, but sell 45 or 50-minute units on six, twelve and twenty-four-month agreements and have almost no Diploma depth — criterion strands, command terms and Internal Assessment moderation are simply not what they are built for. We do both halves: the Diploma your child sits, and the German system it will be converted into.

Standard Level subjects, the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay, TOK and the MYP run on our Experienced tier. The IB is not a syllabus you can revise your way through by knowing more content. It is an assessment system: every mark on every paper is awarded against a published markband, a command term or a criterion strand, and a candidate who writes a beautiful answer to a question the examiner did not ask still scores four. That is why "a good maths tutor" so often changes nothing, and why the parents who ring us in February are usually two terms late. Our tutors are assigned to a subject and a level, they have marked to the strands the school is moderating against, and they read the Internal Assessment before it is submitted rather than after the grade comes back.
Not "an IB tutor". A Chemistry HL tutor, or a Maths AI SL tutor, or someone who has supervised twenty Extended Essays in History. Tell us the subject, the level and the school, and we assign the specialist — typically within 48 to 72 hours.
If a session falls short, the student asks and we refund it in full. Not a paid trial lesson, not a thirty-day window that closes long before the IA deadlines arrive — any session, all the way to the May papers.
The international IB agencies are online only. We teach in your home in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg and Stuttgart at exactly the same rate as online — €58, €68 or €83 either way, switchable any week.
The IB agencies stop at the Diploma. Your child's 38 points has to become a German grade, sit in a Numerus Clausus ranking and satisfy a KMK subject-combination rule decided back in Year 11. We work in both worlds, which is the whole reason families here call us.

A Diploma candidate takes one subject from each of the first five groups, a sixth from Group 6 or a second subject from Groups 1 to 4, three or four of them at Higher Level — then carries the core on top. Tutors are assigned to the subject and the level, because Maths AA HL and Maths AI SL are not the same job and never have been.
Almost every point a candidate loses is lost in one of these eight places. This is the table no IB agency publishes, because it makes very clear where tutoring earns its money and where it does not.

These are the rhythms we see work across the two Diploma years, costed at our Experienced tier of €68 an hour over the recommended 1.5-hour session. Germany has 78 IB World Schools, 76 of them authorised for the Diploma Programme, clustered around Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Bonn, Hamburg, Stuttgart and the Leipzig–Dresden corridor. These are the schools our students actually attend, with the programmes each one genuinely offers — because IGCSE, the MYP and the Diploma are three different jobs for a tutor.
Families are routinely told a German university "wants 38 points". No German university publishes an IB cut-off — the system does not work that way, and anyone quoting you one has invented it. Here is what actually happens to the number your child gets on 6 July.

The subject combination matters more than the headline total. Taking Mathematics at Standard Level with no science at Higher Level can restrict a student to subject-bound admission rather than general university entrance — a choice made in Year 11 that quietly closes doors in Year 13. It is worth checking the combination the moment it is chosen, not the term before applications.
German universities do not set an IB threshold. For oversubscribed subjects they rank every applicant by converted grade average and admit downwards until the places are gone — the grade of the last student admitted becomes that semester's Numerus Clausus. It is a result, not a requirement, and it moves every single intake. The universities that publish last year's figure attach an explicit warning against using it to predict this year's.
International applicants are usually assessed within a separate quota of the intake rather than against the published figure at all, and some programmes weigh a subject grade or an aptitude test alongside the average. So the honest answer to "what score do I need" is: the highest one your child can reasonably reach, because the bar is set by whoever else applies that year.
What we can tell you is where the leverage sits. Two points is a third of a grade; the Extended Essay and TOK together are worth three points before a single paper is sat; and points are far easier to add in DP1 than in the last eight weeks of DP2. That is why we push families to begin the Diploma with support rather than rescue it at the end.
Two promises, written down rather than implied — because a Diploma runs for two years, and the two things IB families fear most are paying for hours that change nothing and being tied into a package bought in a panic.

There are no conditions and no asterisks, and it is not limited to the first lesson — satisfaction is guaranteed on every session, across every IB subject and level, in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The refund is requested in one message — by WhatsApp, by email, or through your account. Nobody is asked to justify it, sit through a retention call, or have an awkward conversation with the tutor; we handle that end. We would rather refund an hour that did not land than have a Diploma candidate sit through five more like it in the term the Internal Assessments are due.

Rundil provides one-to-one IB tutoring across Germany for students at the country's 76 Diploma-authorised schools, for MYP students heading towards them, and for candidates preparing a retake. The hard part here is almost never finding someone clever. It is finding someone who has marked the specific thing your child is losing marks on — a Group 4 scientific investigation against its five criteria, a Business Management case study where the command term is evaluate and the answer describes, a Maths AA HL proof question that has to be set out rather than merely solved. A tutor who treats Higher Level Chemistry and Standard Level Chemistry as one subject will be pleasant, expensive and largely ineffective.

The Diploma is scored out of 45: six subjects at seven points each, plus up to three from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge matrix. Nearly all of it is decided before the papers. Internal Assessments are drafted and moderated through DP1 and the first half of DP2. The Extended Essay question is fixed a year before it is submitted. Predicted grades — the numbers universities build conditional offers on — are set on mock performance long before the exam year feels like an exam year. By the time the written papers arrive in the May session, running from late April into the third week of May, with results in early July, most of the score is already fixed. That is the whole argument for starting in the autumn rather than in February, and it is the reason our own figure carries a date in it.
Rundil charges €58, €68 or €83 per full 60-minute hour whether the tutor sits at your kitchen table in Bogenhausen or joins from a screen in Leipzig, because the preparation behind the hour does not change. Tutoring is VAT-exempt in Germany, so the rate above is the rate on your invoice. There is no subscription, no registration fee, no setup fee and no minimum term: add hours in the eight weeks before the papers, pause them over the summer, stop altogether once results are in.
