Structured Exam Preparation in Switzerland Makes the Difference

Exam preparation in Switzerland is structured one-to-one tutoring designed around a specific exam board and assessment style — IB DP, IB MYP, IGCSE, A-Level, Swiss Matura or Gymi entrance. A tutor diagnoses where marks are being lost, teaches exam-specific technique, and runs past papers under realistic conditions. At Rundil, every tutor is degree-qualified, sessions are 1.5 hours, and a tutor is assigned within 48–72 hours.

Diagnosis First

Every Rundil session begins by identifying exactly where marks are being lost — topic gaps, exam technique or time management. We fix the real problem, not a generic one.

Exam-Board Specific

IB, IGCSE, A-Level and Swiss curricula each have distinct mark schemes and examiners' expectations. Tutors work exclusively within your child's actual board and syllabus.

Examiner-Aware Teaching

A number of Rundil tutors have direct experience as examiners or assessors within IB, IGCSE and A-Level boards. They know exactly what marks are awarded for — and what loses them.

Past Paper Practice

Every session closes with exam-level practice questions under realistic conditions. Students learn how to convert knowledge into marks on paper, not just understand the content.

Reassignment, No Friction

If your tutor is not the right fit, we reassign immediately — no awkward conversations, no extra cost. Your child's result is what matters.

Satisfaction Guarantee

Not happy after your first session? We offer a full refund. No questions asked. We stand behind every tutor we assign for exam preparation in Switzerland.

IB Diploma Programme (DP)

The IB Diploma is the most widely studied international qualification at Swiss international schools. With subjects across six groups, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS requirements, students face a complex and cumulative exam load. Gymi Entrance Preparation

The Gymi entrance examination — particularly in Canton Zurich — is one of the most competitive milestones in a Swiss child's academic career. The Langgymnasium examination can take place as early as Grade 6, and preliminary grades in German and Mathematics from public schools play a decisive role. Rundil tutors help students build the specific skills tested in the Aufnahmeprüfung: German reading comprehension, essay writing and mathematics across the full primary school curriculum.

Rundil offers Gymi entrance preparation across all Swiss cantons, with particular expertise in the Canton Zurich Aufnahmeprüfung (Langgymnasium and Kurzgymnasium) and the equivalent examinations in Zug, Bern, Aargau and Basel. For the Kurzgymnasium entrance from secondary school, we additionally cover French and English, which feature in the exam in some cantons.

Gymi Preparation Includes

  • Prüfungstraining (mock exam practice)
  • German & Maths fundamentals
  • Mock exams under timed conditions
  • Confidence building and exam mindset
  • Weekly structured progress reviews

University Entry — Where Our Students Go Next

Exam preparation in Switzerland with Rundil is built around your child's destination. Whether the goal is ETH Zürich, EPFL, a Swiss federal university, or admission to UK and US institutions, the right curriculum result is the unlock.

Swiss Universities

ETH Zürich & EPFL typically require 38+ IB points, with strong HL Maths and Sciences. Swiss universities accept the federal Matura directly. Our Most Accomplished tutors (CHF 99/hr) specialise in this level.

UK Universities

Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Edinburgh — all accept the IB Diploma as a direct equivalent to A-Levels. We support both pathways with the same examiner-aware approach to admissions thresholds.

European & US Universities

Many European universities (Bocconi, IE, Erasmus) accept IB and A-Level directly. For US admissions, we support SAT prep alongside IB / A-Level, plus essay coaching for the Common App.

Targeting a specific university? Tell us the institution and your child's predicted grade — we'll assign a tutor with experience in that admissions threshold.

When To Start — Exam Calendar Switzerland

Exam preparation in Switzerland works best when started early enough to diagnose gaps, build technique, and run timed past papers. Below is the typical exam window for each curriculum and our recommended start date.

IB Diploma — Final Exams

May (annually)

Start: September of Year 13 for HL subjects; January for SL revision-only support. Predicted grades are decided well before the exam — earlier is better.

IGCSE — Cambridge & Edexcel

May–June (annually)

Start: Year 10 for two-year support, January of Year 11 for revision-led prep. Six weeks is enough to lift one grade band on a single subject.

A-Level — Final Exams

May–June (annually)

Start: September of Year 13. UCAS predicted grades are submitted in autumn — boost them before the offers come out.

Gymi — Canton Zurich

March (Aufnahmeprüfung)

Start: September of the year before — six months minimum. The Langgymnasium exam has a 50% fail rate; preparation is not optional.

Swiss Matura — Maturaprüfung

Varies by canton

Start: 6–12 months before. Cantonal differences (Zurich, Zug, Aargau, Bern) matter — we assign tutors familiar with your specific Maturaprüfung.

IB MYP eAssessment

May (Year 11)

Start: October of Year 11. eAssessment is criterion-based and demands different technique to GCSE — examiner-aware tutors are essential.

Behind on your timeline? Even six weeks of structured exam preparation can lift a grade band. Tell us your exam date and we'll move fast.

Key Terms in Swiss Exam Preparation — Explained

A quick reference for parents new to the IB, IGCSE, A-Level, Swiss Matura and Gymi systems.

Aufnahmeprüfung DE

The Gymnasium entrance examination in Switzerland — typically held in March in Canton Zurich. Tests German and Mathematics for the Langgymnasium; adds French and English for the Kurzgymnasium.

Internal Assessment (IA) IB

A structured coursework component in every IB Diploma subject — typically 20–30% of the final grade. Marked by the school and externally moderated by the IB.

Extended Essay (EE) IB

A 4,000-word independent research essay required for the IB Diploma. Combined with TOK to determine the diploma bonus points (up to 3).

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) IB

The IB Diploma's interdisciplinary critical-thinking course, assessed via a 1,600-word essay and an oral exhibition.

Maturaprüfung DE

The Swiss federal university entrance examination. Combines written and oral components across multiple subjects. Cantonal variations apply (Zurich, Zug, Aargau, Bern).

Maturaarbeit DE

An independent research project required as part of the Swiss Matura — equivalent in spirit to the IB Extended Essay.

Langgymnasium DE

The six-year Swiss Gymnasium pathway, entered after Grade 6 of primary school via the Aufnahmeprüfung. Leads to the federal Matura.

Kurzgymnasium DE

The shorter Swiss Gymnasium pathway — typically four years — entered from secondary school. Final qualification: federal Matura.

Predicted Grade

A school-issued prediction of a student's final IB or A-Level grade, submitted to universities for conditional offers. Decided well before the actual exam — improving it requires structured preparation.

Mark Scheme

The official document describing how an exam paper is marked, point by point. Examiner-aware tutors teach directly from these — not from textbooks.

Past Paper

A real exam paper from a previous year. The single highest-leverage exam preparation tool — Rundil sessions close with timed past-paper practice.

MwSt DE

Mehrwertsteuer — Swiss VAT, currently 8.1%. Added to all Rundil tutoring invoices in Switzerland. Published prices are exclusive of VAT.
