Now the part almost nobody says out loud: a child who speaks fluent English can still lose marks in Englisch. The paper is not marking how well your child speaks. It marks textual analysis, register, essay architecture and whether the answer did what the Operator instructed — analyse is not discuss, and comment on is not outline. Add Sprachmittlung, the German mediation task that exists in almost no other system, and a bilingual fifteen-year-old can sit in an Englisch Leistungskurs quietly collecting nines while everyone assumes the subject is a free ride.
English is examined in three parallel systems in this country at once: the Abitur, the international-school boards, and the certificates universities and employers ask for afterwards. We tutor all three, and we will tell you plainly which one is actually deciding your child's next step. English is examined at a high level in three different systems in this country simultaneously, and almost no provider covers more than one of them. The German system marks Englisch as a literary and analytical subject with its own command vocabulary and its own mediation task. The international schools mark it as First Language, Second Language, Literature, Language A or Language B — five genuinely different qualifications wearing the same word. And then IELTS, TOEFL and the Cambridge certificates measure something different again. A tutor who only knows one of the three will be pleasant and largely useless for the other two.
Your child is not being marked on vocabulary. They are being marked on whether an analyse task got analysis, whether the register fits the text type, and whether the argument is built rather than listed. That is what the sessions drill, against your school's own Erwartungshorizont or the board's mark scheme.
Mediation is the task that separates German English papers from every other English exam on earth, and it is the one most private tutors skip because they have never sat one. It is not translation. We teach the selection, the summarising and the register shift it actually asks for, on real past tasks.
English is the subject parents feel least able to judge from the outside, which is exactly why the guarantee matters here. If a session falls short, the student says so and it is refunded in full — any session, all year, no conditions and no approval process.

English is the subject where a parent can sit in the next room and genuinely not know whether the hour was any good. Nobody can hear an essay improving. An English session is not a conversation and it is not a vocabulary drill. It is ninety real minutes in which a text is taken apart, an answer is built to the command term, and the student writes something that gets marked before they leave. The shape holds whether the paper is an Englisch Klausur in Hamburg or IB English A Paper 1 in Frankfurt.
English is not a subject that only matters at the end. It is the first foreign language for almost every pupil in Germany, it is one of the three written papers at the Mittlerer Schulabschluss, and it is examined again in the Abitur. "English" is not one qualification. It is at least seven, and they reward different things. A student can be excellent at one and struggle badly at another, which is why tutors are assigned to the paper rather than to the language.
English is the one subject where the shortlist gets confusing, because half the results are language schools selling conversation and the other half are academic tutors. Germany has 78 IB World Schools, 76 of them authorised for the Diploma Programme, alongside British and American-curriculum schools. These are the ones our students actually attend, with the programmes each school genuinely offers — which matters for English more than for any other subject, because IGCSE English, MYP Language and Literature and IB English A are three different jobs for a tutor.
Families routinely tell us "she does English" and then discover, sometimes in Year 12, that the paper in front of her is not the one they assumed. These are the seven that matter in Germany, what each one really measures, the task that catches students out, and where tutoring moves the mark.

None of these are language problems, which is why a language school cannot solve them and why a native-speaker conversation partner will not either. They are examination-technique problems dressed up as English problems, and they respond quickly to being named.
A Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency certificate does not expire, states a CEFR level directly, and is widely understood by German employers. IELTS and TOEFL iBT report a score rather than a level, and both are commonly asked for by English-taught degree programmes. What none of them do is guarantee anything: the required score is set by the individual university, faculty or employer, and two departments in the same building can ask for different things.
For a German school pupil, the honest order of priority is usually this: the Englisch mark on the Abitur Zeugnis first, because it is the one that feeds the Gesamtqualifikation and cannot be retaken casually; the certificate second, only once you know a specific programme is asking for it. Sitting IELTS in Year 11 because it feels productive is a common and expensive detour.
Where a certificate genuinely is required, it is one of the most tutorable things in this whole list — the format is fixed, the criteria are published, and six to eight weeks of focused work moves most candidates meaningfully.

Rundil provides one-to-one English tutoring across Germany for English as an examined school subject. That is a narrower promise than most search results in this market make, and deliberately so: type "English tutor Germany" into a search engine and you will be offered language schools, conversation partners and adverts recruiting English teachers. None of those help a student whose Englisch Klausur came back with a 9 attached to a comment about task fulfilment.
The work here is analysis, not vocabulary. A German Englisch paper wants an unseen text taken apart, an argument built to the command term, and a mediation task handled for a stated reader. An IGCSE paper wants directed writing that obeys its form. An IB Paper 1 wants an interpretive line found without guiding questions at Higher Level. These reward different instincts, and a tutor who has only taught one of them will teach the wrong habit into the others. You tell us the school, the board and the exact paper; we assign a degree-qualified specialist for it, typically within 48 to 72 hours, and confirm the name by WhatsApp.
The single most common enquiry we receive on this subject begins with some version of "she is completely bilingual and she is getting a 9". It is not a contradiction. Fluency gets a student through the reading in half the time and then abandons them at the point where marks are awarded — for naming what a device does rather than that it exists, for holding a register across four hundred words, for answering analyse with analysis. Those are learnable in weeks once somebody names them, which is why the same students often move fastest.
It is also why every session is refundable in full if the student asks. English progress is genuinely hard for a parent to see from the outside; you should not have to pay on faith for a term to find out whether it worked.
Rundil charges €58, €68 or €83 per full 60-minute hour whether the tutor sits at your kitchen table in Bogenhausen or joins from a screen in Leipzig, because the preparation behind the hour does not change. Tutoring is VAT-exempt in Germany, so nothing is added at the end.
